PERSONAL: MIDNIGHT OIL

While the majority of my work is client-based, sometimes that client is myself! Like my Wildlife of Nova Scotia series I featured in it’s own section of my portfolio, I often make my own work for sale via my web store, at stockists around Nova Scotia, and at pop-up markets. Below are a few of my favourite Midnight Oil products from over the years.

First up, the items I design for an annual SPCA fundraiser I run every February. It’s in honour of a dear old cat of mine whose companionship got me through a lot of difficult times. His name was Lexi, and together we’ve raised thousands of dollars for our local SPCA. His brother Checkers and sister Eve now keep me company through it all.

I really enjoy creating illustrations for clothing. These two sweatshirts are part of an ongoing series I have exploring local wildlife in the style of vintage tourism t shirts.

In the early days of lockdowns, when everyone was at home baking bread with their bubbles I released my own puzzle. It was great timing, and a lot of fun to design. I drew the only thing I knew at this time and that was my home. Thus the title, “Home Office”. Although exaggerated a fair bit, it depicts a lot of the comforts that kept me together during those quiet months.

This piece is quite simple but it celebrates one of the under-appreciated treasures of living in Halifax: Point Pleasant Park.

Some of these goodies may still be available in my shop, so head to that section of the site to check them out!
