personal: WEdding stationery

When I’m asked what my favourite project I’ve ever worked on is, I immediately think of when I designed and illustrated the stationery for my wedding to my lovely wife, Stephanie. It was so much fun to create a look that suited the day we had planned and suited us as individuals and as a couple. We went with this medieval theme that featured illustrations meant to look like woodcuts, and ornamentation and type treatments meant to look like illuminated manuscripts. It was perfect for the venue which featured wrought-iron chandeliers hanging from a vaulted ceiling, and heraldic banners on the walls.

We told the story of our proposal, which took place in Oxford, Mississippi, at the foot of William Faulkners grave. And of course our adored cat, Lexi, made appearances throughout as well.

For the day of the wedding I created these handbills that outlined the schedule for the evening, told some stories from our lives together, featured information on all those involved in the wedding party, and had activities inside like funny horoscopes written by a dear friend, Lord of the Rings trivia, and a wedding-themed bingo card.

For thank you’s, we got enamel pins made featuring a rose in a bottle of Jack Daniel with our initials on it.
